Pinwheel Passion

In lieu of the Pinwheels and Pearls baby shower we are throwing for our bff,  preparations have started in motion for decor. I am the one who decided to follow a tutorial on how to make an easy pinwheel- and the cool thing about this is you can either make it stationary or fix it to something and actually get it in motion. Plus they are just  so darn cute.

So...if you happen to be in the pinwheel passion- here's how!

So the best thing to figure out first is how big you want the pinwheel. For a larger pinwheel that would probably be used for wall decor- you can use a 8x8 or larger. However, I am making relatively smaller pinwheels for clothespins for a game, to add as small accents and for cupcake toppers. Soooooo, I decided on a 4x4. You MUST use a square in order for it to work right.

Here are some tools to use to make your pinwheel:

I use a triangle to get some good diagonals to cut my four corners. Obviously, this was my first one I tried before I decided I needed a straighter line that a triangle can make.

List of things to have:
*2 -4x4 patterned papers of your choice, you will need to glue them together with the patterns facing out (this is so your pinwheel will be colorful on both sides)
*Scissors and glue stick
*Ruler to measure paper to cut
*A pencil to mark 4 corner lines to cut
*Hole puncher
*Brads (long or short- I bought both so I could use the longer ones to wrap around a stick for the mobile pinwheels) You can find these where the staplers and office supplies are at Wal-Mart.

When you cut the four diagonal lines, make sure not to cut too far into the middle- #1 so the pinwheel will overlap nicely, #2-you will not have room for your center hole!

You will need to fold down alternating corners (every other one) I started with one, and bent the tip into the center where the center hole will go.

Skip a corner, and fold down the next corner.

And continue on untill you have all four pinwheels sticking out- you can punch a hole at the bottom of each corner you are folding down and line them up. Finally, punch a hole in the center and stick a brad through the center.
And here you go :)
