Cleaning Focus for the ADHD’er
I cannot STAND to be in the middle of a mess if I intend to have mental clarity to start the year off, so if everything has a place, the atmosphere is a whole lot less chaotic. One key thing I have found to manage ADHD tendencies that LOVE to pick up multiple things in the middle of a project is to find ways to make it FUN. I know what you’re thinking: Daphne, there is no way to make laundry fun! Maybe, but I would say- are you motivated enough? For me, it started with delegating more work to the kids in folding, sorting and putting away their own clothing so I didn’t have so much to manage for that task. Each kid gets their own laundry basket and has to fold and put it away as their final chore.
Secondly, I know if I don’t wear a certain shirt within a month or two- it most likely isn’t going to be worn or I have too much. I tend to sort the clothing and throw in garbage bags to donate later.
Third, I wait until close to nighttime to do my own hanging up because I cannot stand to have a pile of laundry on my bed when I’m really tired. I will NOT sleep at night on a pile. So that motivates me to quickly line up my shirts, my pants over by footboard and then hang them all up in one go.
But you want to know what works the most effectively for me to stick to putting something up in one go? Have a place for it that’s easy, and make it interesting. My tumbler lids all go into two dollar store baskets right next to the sink so I do r have to spend too long putting them away. So I’m thinking about how I can make the laundry hanging process more simple.
A little tool I’ve kept my eye on and I’m debating on grabbing from Amazon will help to reduce space on the closet and put up multiple items in one go:Closet Hanger Space Saver
